Direct Shooting Supplies Wildfowling Diary - October 2009

Lindisfarne sunset
Wildfowling at Lindisfarne and an October sunset
I think the DSS Pro-staff report will have to read “must try harder”! Yes, we know you all look forward to reading our wildfowling diary but sometimes the need to get out on the marsh and then the pile of work on our return means we cannot get the time to keep you updated. So we will have to give you a quick review of October and next month we will try harder to keep you up to date!

October was a busy month for Sam and me and between us we notched up 40 flights with a bag for October that contained 14 Geese and 44 Ducks with a nice mix of Mallard, Wigeon and Teal. We normally average about a bird a flight so October was a bumper month although we still had our far share of blank flights.

First Wigeon
Sam with his first Wigeon - Evening flight on the South Solway

Sam shot his first ever Wigeon this month with a well taken brace at evening flight on the South Solway – he was delighted with this achievement. Sam next set his sights on his first Pinkfoot and we stuck a bottle of champagne in the fridge ready for the celebration which we were sure would come this month. During the last week of the month we had 10 consecutive foreshore flights exclusively after the Pinks and it was not until the 9th of these flights on the 29th of the month that Sam had a couple of chances and he was gutted when his gun jammed on both occasions.
